Meliá Laguna opens on Sal, expanding The Resort Group Plc’s premium adults-only offering
The Resort Group Plc is celebrating the opening of Meliá Laguna Beach Resort & Spa on Sal, introducing a sophisticated beachfront retreat for couples and friends within The Lagoon Resorts.
Welcoming guests aged 16 and over, Meliá Laguna becomes Meliá’s second adults-only resort on the island. The opening expands the Group’s premium hospitality offering, combining elegant accommodation, varied dining and wellness facilities with the natural appeal of Cape Verde’s Atlantic coastline.
With 302 rooms and suites, the five-star property offers a substantial addition to the Group’s accommodation portfolio. Its setting beside Algodoeiro Beach places guests close to the sand, while tropical gardens and swimming pools create spaces for relaxation throughout the day.
Rob Jarrett, Honorary Chairman of The Resort Group Plc, said:
“The opening of Meliá Laguna Beach Resort & Spa represents another important milestone in our commitment to Cape Verde. Sal has exceptional natural appeal, and our role is to complement that setting with hospitality that gives visitors compelling reasons to choose the island.
“With Laguna, we are broadening the choice available to couples and friends who want comfort, quality and the freedom to enjoy a holiday at their own pace.”
The resort’s adults-only positioning provides a clear identity within The Lagoon Resorts. Whether guests are planning a romantic escape, travelling with friends or simply seeking time away from their usual routines, the emphasis is on an unhurried experience.
Accommodation ranges from deluxe rooms to spacious suites and swim-up options. Published room categories include 40-square-metre Double Deluxe Rooms, 48-square-metre The Level Swim-Up rooms and 72-square-metre Junior Suites. Private balconies or terraces provide outdoor space, while selected categories offer ocean views or whirlpool facilities.
For guests seeking additional comfort and personalised touches, The Level offers an enhanced experience. The choice of accommodation allows visitors to select the setting that best suits their stay, from a comfortable base for exploring Sal to a suite designed for lingering relaxation.
Lisa Kellett, Chief of Staff for The Lagoon Resorts, said:
“Meliá Laguna has been created around the pleasure of taking time for yourself. That might mean a peaceful morning beside the pool, dinner with friends or a few hours enjoying the spa.
“Our teams understand that the details make the difference. A warm welcome, thoughtful service and comfortable surroundings all contribute to the experience. We want guests to feel that they can settle in, slow down and make the holiday their own.”
Dining brings together several distinct culinary experiences. Casa Nostra serves Italian dishes, La Serena offers Mediterranean dining, and Nami introduces Japanese cuisine.
A buffet restaurant and poolside refreshments add further flexibility, giving guests variety across their stay. The Group also lists two swimming pools, three bars, a gym and retail shops among the resort’s facilities.
Wellness forms another part of the offering. The YHI Spa provides treatments and facilities designed around rest and renewal, while guests who prefer to remain active can join yoga, stretching and fitness sessions or enjoy social activities around the pool.
Evenings bring a change of atmosphere, with live music, DJ sets and shows providing entertainment within the adults-only setting. Beyond the resort, snorkelling and scuba diving offer opportunities to discover Sal’s Atlantic waters, adding exploration to a holiday centred on relaxation.
The opening continues a development story that began when Rob Jarrett founded The Resort Group Plc in 2007. Meliá Tortuga opened in 2011, followed by Meliá Dunas in 2014 and Meliá Llana in 2016.
Jarrett added: “Our ambition is to build lasting relationships with guests and with the destination itself. Every opening should strengthen the experience we offer and contribute to Cape Verde’s appeal.
“Meliá Laguna gives us another opportunity to deliver on that ambition, welcoming visitors who will discover Sal for the first time and those who already know why it is worth returning.”
As its first guests arrive, Meliá Laguna begins a new chapter for The Lagoon Resorts, bringing greater choice to the Group’s premium couples-and-friends offering on Sal.
