Three Meliá Properties Earn World Travel Awards Nominations for 2024
Three Meliá properties on the island of Sal have been recognised among Cape Verde’s leading hospitality destinations in the 2024 World Travel Awards, marking another significant endorsement for the country’s growing luxury tourism sector.
Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Tortuga Beach have both been nominated for Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel 2024, while Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa has secured a nomination for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2024.
Meliá Llana has achieved the distinction of being shortlisted in both categories, having also been named among the contenders for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort.
The nominations provide further international recognition for the quality of the hospitality offering on Sal, which has developed into the principal tourism destination in Cape Verde.
Lisa Kellett, Chief of Staff at The Resort Group Plc, said:
“To see Meliá Llana, Meliá Tortuga and Meliá Dunas recognised by the World Travel Awards is something everyone involved with the resorts can be extremely proud of.
“These nominations are ultimately a reflection of the people who work across the properties every day and the consistently high standards they deliver for our guests. Sal has developed an increasingly strong reputation as an international holiday destination, and world-class hotels and resorts are central to that success.
“For three properties to receive recognition in the same year demonstrates the strength and depth of the hospitality offering that has been created here on the island.”
Meliá Llana and Meliá Tortuga shortlisted for Leading Hotel
The World Travel Awards shortlist for Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel 2024 places Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Tortuga Beach alongside some of the best-known names in the country’s hotel industry.
The six properties listed in the category are Hotel Riu Karamboa, Dunas de Sal Hotel, Hilton Cabo Verde Sal Resort, Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa, Meliá Tortuga Beach and Oásis Salinas Sea.
For Meliá Llana and Meliá Tortuga, the nominations continue a strong history in the category.
Meliá Llana was named Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel in both 2020 and 2024, while Meliá Tortuga has won the accolade on five previous occasions – in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
That record means Meliá Tortuga remains one of the most successful properties in the history of the Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel category.
Meliá Dunas and Meliá Llana recognised among Cape Verde’s leading resorts
There is further recognition in the Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2024 category, where both Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa have been shortlisted.
They are competing alongside Hotel Riu Cabo Verde, Hilton Cabo Verde Sal Resort, TUI BLUE Cabo Verde and VOI Praia de Chaves Resort.
Meliá Llana’s inclusion in both the Leading Hotel and Leading Resort categories represents a particularly notable achievement, while Meliá Dunas continues its long-standing presence among the country’s leading resort destinations.
The recognition comes as Cape Verde continues to strengthen its position within the international tourism market, with Sal at the centre of the country’s resort and hospitality industry.
The island’s combination of year-round sunshine, extensive beaches and expanding international air connectivity has helped establish it as an increasingly important destination for European holidaymakers.
Lisa Kellett added:
“International awards matter because they help put Cape Verde and Sal in front of travellers around the world. However, what is particularly pleasing is the consistency of the recognition these properties have received over a number of years.
“The ambition is not simply to create outstanding resorts, but to contribute to a sustainable tourism industry that brings people back to Sal year after year and continues to raise Cape Verde’s profile internationally.”
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognise achievement across the global travel, tourism and hospitality industries, with awards covering destinations, airlines, hotels, resorts and tourism businesses around the world.
The 2024 nominations once again place Sal prominently on the tourism industry’s international awards stage and underline the island’s increasingly established reputation for high-quality resort hospitality.
With Meliá Llana, Meliá Tortuga and Meliá Dunas all receiving World Travel Awards recognition for 2024, the nominations represent another milestone for the properties and for Cape Verde’s expanding tourism sector.
