Meliá Dunas and Meliá Llana nominated for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort at World Travel Awards 2023

Meliá Dunas and Meliá Llana nominated for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort at World Travel Awards 2023

Two of The Resort Group Plc’s flagship resorts on the island of Sal have been nominated for one of Cape Verde’s foremost tourism honours, with both Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa named in the running for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2023 at the World Travel Awards.

The nominations place the two Sal properties among a select group of resorts competing for national recognition in the 2023 World Travel Awards, one of the best-known awards programmes in the international travel and tourism industry.

Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa have both been included in the Cape Verde category, underlining the strength of The Resort Group Plc’s hospitality portfolio and the growing reputation of Sal as an international tourism destination.

The full field for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2023 comprises:

  • Hilton Cabo Verde Sal Resort
  • Hotel Riu Cabo Verde
  • IBEROSTAR Club Boa Vista
  • Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa
  • Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa
  • TUI BLUE Cabo Verde

The nominations mean two resorts developed by The Resort Group Plc are competing alongside some of the biggest names operating within Cape Verde’s tourism industry.

Located on the island of Sal, Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa has become an important part of the island’s large-scale resort offering. The beachfront development combines accommodation, restaurants and bars with extensive leisure facilities, creating an integrated resort experience for international visitors.

Its sister property, Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa, provides an adults-only resort experience on Sal, with its positioning centred around premium accommodation, relaxation and the island’s year-round appeal as a sunshine destination.

Having both properties represented in the same World Travel Awards category provides further recognition for the scale and quality of the tourism infrastructure developed by The Resort Group Plc on Sal.

A spokesperson for The Resort Group Plc said:

“We are delighted to see both Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa nominated for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2023.

“To have two of our resorts represented in such a competitive category is something we are extremely proud of. It is also recognition of the people working across these resorts every day to provide the standard of experience that visitors to Sal have come to expect.

“Cape Verde has enormous potential as an international tourism destination, and we are proud of the role The Resort Group Plc has played in supporting the development of Sal’s hospitality sector.”

The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to recognise achievement across the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Its awards cover destinations, hotels, resorts, airlines and other tourism businesses across regional and global categories.

For The Resort Group Plc, the latest nominations continue a long association between its Cape Verde developments and international hospitality recognition.

They also come as Cape Verde continues to build its position as a destination for European holidaymakers, with Sal in particular benefiting from its beaches, warm climate and expanding hospitality infrastructure.

The Resort Group Plc has invested extensively in the development of resort properties in Cape Verde, helping to create accommodation and tourism infrastructure capable of serving the country’s growing international visitor market.

The inclusion of both Meliá Dunas and Meliá Llana in the 2023 awards therefore represents more than recognition for two individual properties. It highlights the wider development of Sal into a resort destination capable of competing with established international holiday markets.

With voting and the awards process still to come, both properties will now be looking to secure the title of Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2023.

Whatever the eventual outcome, having two resorts in the national field is already a significant endorsement for The Resort Group Plc and the teams responsible for delivering the guest experience across its Sal properties.
