The Lagoon Resorts celebrates double nomination at World Travel Awards 2026

The Resort Group Plc is celebrating a double nomination at the World Travel Awards, with Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa both set to compete for the title of Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2026.

The two hotels, part of The Lagoon Resorts on Sal, will join a competitive field featuring Four Points by Sheraton São Vicente Resort, Hotel Riu Cabo Verde, TUI BLUE Cabo Verde and VOI Praia de Chaves Resort. Their nominations highlight the breadth of hospitality available within The Resort Group Plc’s portfolio and provide an international platform for showcasing Sal’s appeal.

Founded in 1993, the World Travel Awards has spent more than three decades recognising achievement across travel, tourism and hospitality. Its annual programme celebrates hotels, resorts, airlines and destinations through regional awards ceremonies, with regional winners progressing to compete for global honours at the Grand Final.

For The Lagoon Resorts, the forthcoming awards will offer an opportunity to showcase two distinctive holiday experiences: the family-friendly facilities and entertainment at Meliá Dunas, and the relaxed, adults-only atmosphere at Meliá Llana.

Lisa Kellett, Chief of Staff for The Lagoon Resorts, part of The Resort Group Plc, said:

“To have both Meliá Dunas and Meliá Llana nominated for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort 2026 is a fantastic way to begin the year. We will be immensely proud to see these two properties represent The Lagoon Resorts on an international stage.

“These nominations recognise the dedication of the people who make our resorts special. From housekeeping and reception to our chefs, gardeners and entertainment teams, every colleague contributes to the experience our guests take home. We look forward to celebrating their work throughout the awards season.”

The five-star Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa occupies a coastal setting in southwest Sal, with tropical gardens and access to Algodoeiro beach. Guests can enjoy eight gastronomic spaces, a YHI Spa and an amphitheatre capable of accommodating up to 800 people.

Its family facilities include a water park, cinema and mini-disco, alongside organised children’s activities. Adults can choose from tennis, yoga, Pilates and dance classes, while three-bedroom villas provide 110 square metres of accommodation, complete with private gardens and swimming pools.

The 2026 nomination will mark another chapter in Meliá Dunas’ sustained presence at the awards. The resort’s World Travel Awards profile records nominations for Cape Verde’s Leading Resort every year from 2017 to 2026: ten consecutive years of recognition within the category.

Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa will enter the competition with its own established awards credentials, having won Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel in both 2020 and 2021. Previous nominations have also included Africa’s Leading Beach Resort and Africa’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort.

Located directly on Algodoeiro beach, Meliá Llana offers an adults-only, all-inclusive experience surrounded by tropical gardens. Its wellness facilities include six massage cabins, two designed for couples, together with a sauna and Turkish bath.

Two main swimming pools provide space to unwind, while The Level guests have access to an additional private pool. A gym open 24 hours a day complements the resort’s leisure offering.

Together, the nominations will draw attention to the choice available within The Lagoon Resorts, from active family breaks to peaceful coastal escapes.

As the 2026 awards programme unfolds, The Resort Group Plc will celebrate this double recognition while continuing to focus on the details that shape every stay. The ambition will remain straightforward: to deliver welcoming service, memorable holidays and compelling reasons for guests to return to Sal.
